Michael Davis Signs Tender with Chargers
Michael Davis had probably the most productive season of his short career thus far. He missed four games (two of them due to suspension), but started all 12 games that he was active for. He also got the first two interceptions of his career, as well as a career-high nine pass deflections. One of his interceptions was impressively against eventual Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes in the season finale to start the third quarter, temporarily turning the momentum back in his team’s favor. Davis also had 39 tackles, with 31 of them being solo.
Davis played football in high school in Glendale, California. He then played in college with Brigham Young from 2013 to 2016. In 2017, he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Chargers. After struggling during the preseason, he was cut just before the regular season and then added to the practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster due to injuries two weeks later, but did not have any starts and saw minimal playing time with only 18 tackles and one pass deflection.
In 2018 he remained on the roster, and eventually got his first starts (nine of them) once again due to injuries. Davis saw his play improve that season, having 50 tackles (40 solo), which remains a career high. He also had eight pass deflections and one forced fumble. He ultimately kept his starting job for the 2019 season.
Davis thus far in his career has 107 tackles (85 solo), two interceptions, one forced fumble, and 18 pass deflections. He’ll be trying to keep his level of play increasing in 2020, as he has done through each year so far in his career.
