Danny Trevathan, Chicago Bears Agree to Extension
Danny Trevathan is coming off a season that was cut short by injury, but was still fairly solid. In nine games, he had been in on 70 tackles – putting him on pace for 124, which would’ve been the second highest of his career. He also had one sack and one forced fumble. He suffered an arm injury in Week 10 and didn’t play again, but wasn’t put on injured reserve until mid-December.
Trevathan played football in high school at Leesburg, Florida. He then played in college at Kentucky, where he made First-Team All-SEC in 2010 and second team in 2011. In 2012 he was drafted in the sixth round by the Denver Broncos, and he remained there for the duration of his rookie contract through 2015.
2013 proved to be his best season, where he got a career-high 129 tackles (88 solo) and two sacks. He also had three interceptions, ten passes defensed, and three forced fumbles – all of those being career highs as well. He missed almost the entire 2014 season due to injury, but bounced back in 2015 with another 100+ tackle season, and also helped his team win the Super Bowl. In that Super Bowl, he had eight tackles and a fumble recovery.
Trevathan signed with the Bears in 2016. In his four years there, he’s only played one full season. However, in that one year (2018), he had his third 100+ tackle season. And in all three of the other years, he was on pace for 100 as well if not for injuries (as well as a brief suspension in 2017 due to a controversial hit on Davante Adams).
Trevathan thus far in his career has 609 tackles (427 solo), nine sacks, eight interceptions, 35 passes defensed, six forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.
