The New England Patriots are 2-0 in preseason action, and they’ve had several young rookies step up and perform during the exhibition part of the schedule. In celebration of their 22-17 victory, let’s take a look back at the highlights and best plays from the New England Patriots Preseason Week Two matchup.
Patriots Preseason Week One Highlights
Highlights, Best Plays From New England Patriots Preseason Week Two
5. Jakobi Meyers Breaks Ankles, Gets the First Down
Undrafted free agent Jakobi Meyers is one of the biggest standouts through the first two weeks of the preseason. After tearing apart the Detroit Lions in Week One, Meyers caught all six of his targets for 82 yards. Additionally, he added on a two-point conversion early in the game.
Meyers was simply uncoverable, but his best play came when he converted a third and seven early in the third quarter. Meyers’ started out in the slot and ran his route so well that his cornerback fell over trying to follow him. Despite not being selected in the 2019 NFL Draft, Jakobi Meyers should make the Patriots Week One roster.

4. Chase Winovich Gets the Sack
Speaking of rookie steals, third-round pick Chase Winovich already looks like a future star. Nobody expected the Michigan product to fall into the third round, yet the Patriots took advantage of the rest of the league’s oversight. Winovich was all over the field, recording five tackles, a sack, two quarterback hits, and two tackles-for-loss. His best play of the day came when he took down Logan Woodside, but that was far from his only great moment.

3. Joejuan Williams Breaks Up a Pass
Joejuan Williams isn’t a player who can cover every single type of receiver in the NFL. Instead, he’s a big-bodied player who can match up against larger wide receivers and use his muscle to break up contested catches. That exactly what he did against Tennessee Titans receiver Corey Davis. Marcus Mariota targeted Davis twice with Williams in coverage, and he broke up the pass each time. Basically, New England hopes he can develop into Brandon Browner. This game was a positive step towards that goal.

2. Byron Cowart Takes Down Mariota
The Patriots 2019 rookie class is already looking like a ridiculously talented unit. Fifth-round rookie Byron Cowart took the field with the first-team defense and immediately made a big play. Cowart overpowered the left guard, throwing him to the ground before taking down Mariota. This was his biggest play of the game, but the rookie had a solid night all around.

1. Jarrett Stidham Throws the Game-Winner
After a masterful debut against the Lions, rookie quarterback Jarrett Stidham had a mixed performance against the Titans. The rookie threw two passes which should have been intercepted and looked shaky and nervous early on. However, the Auburn product saved his best for last, connecting with Damoun Patterson for the game-winning touchdown.
