Blaine Gabbert Signs With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Eight-year NFL veteran quarterback Blaine Gabbert signed a deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Contract details are pending at this time. Gabbert, a Missouri product, spent the 2018 season with the Tennessee Titans but has also spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, San Francisco 49ers, and the Arizona Cardinals.

Gabbert spent the 2018 season backing up quarterback Marcus Mariota. Appearing in eight games and making three starts, Gabbert completed 60.4% of his passes for 626 yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions. Tennessee went 2-1 in his starts despite finish the year with a 33.6 grade from Pro Football Focus.

Gabbert initially entered the NFL as a first-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars, Gabbert entered his first training camp as the third quarterback on the depth chart. However, Jacksonville released incumbent starter David Garrard and Gabbert took the starting job from Luke McCown after just two games. During his time on the field, the first-year passer completed 50.8% of his passes for 2,214 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

Gabbert entered the 2012 season as Jacksonville starting quarterback. Appearing in and starting 10 games, Gabbert completed 58.3% of his passes for 1,662 yards, nine touchdowns, and six interceptions. The former first-rounder returned in 2013, but only started three games. During his time on the field, Gabbert completed 48.8% of his passes for 481 yards, one touchdown, and seven interceptions.

The Jaguars parted ways with Gabbert following the 2013 season and signed with the San Francisco 49ers. Gabbert only threw seven passes in 2014 but earned eight starts in 2015 while filling in for an injured Colin Kaepernick. During his time on the field, Gabbert completed 63.1% of his passes for 2,031 yards, 10 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

Throughout the course of his career, Gabbert has completed 56.2% of his passes for 9,063 yards, 48 touchdowns, and 47 interceptions. Gabbert has a 13-35 record as a starter and has a 71.7 career passer rating.
