Donald Penn Signs With Washington Redskins

13-year NFL veteran tackle Donald Penn signed a one-year contract with the Washington Redskins. As of this posting, the exact financial details of the deal are not available to the public. Penn, a Utah State product, spent the 2018 season with the Oakland Raiders but has also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Washington Redskins, Donald Penn Agree to Contract

Penn spent the 2018 season with the Oakland Raiders. After spending the majority of his career as a left tackle, Penn switched to the right side after first-round pick Kolton Miller earned the left tackle position. Penn played in just four games last season before a groin injury prematurely ended his season.

Penn initially entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent following the 2006 NFL Draft. Signing with the Minnesota Vikings, Penn didn’t make the final roster and was released following his rookie training camp. The Utah State product landed on his feet, signing on with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The undrafted rookie saw minimal playing time but did block an extra-point attempt.

Given a full off-season under his belt, Penn earned the starting job in the 2007 season. Over the next seven years, Penn appeared in all 112 possible games, starting 108. Penn’s best season came in 2010, when he earned his first career Pro Bowl nomination.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released Penn following the 2013 season, and the longtime left tackle signed on with the Oakland Raiders. Penn spent five years with the Oakland Raiders, starting and appearing in 66 of a possible 80 games. Penn earned two consecutive Pro Bowl nominations following the 2016 and 2017 seasons for his stellar play.

Throughout the course of his career, Penn has played in 178 of a possible 192 games while earning three Pro Bowl nominations. Interestingly enough, the longtime tackle actually has a few receptions to his name. During his 13-year career, Penn has accumulated six receptions on seven targets for 26 yards and four touchdowns.
