Vinny Curry Signs With the Philadelphia Eagles

Seven-year NFL veteran defensive lineman Vinny Curry signed a one-year, $2.25 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. His contract keeps him with the team until 2020. Curry, a one-time Super Bowl champion, spent the 2018 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Vinny Curry Signs With the Philadelphia Eagles

Curry initially signed a three-year, $23 million contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prior to the start of the 2018 season. However, Curry spent just one season in Tampa before the Buccaneers decided to go in a different direction. Curry played 12 games with the Buccaneers, recording 2.5 sacks, 21 tackles, and seven quarterback hits.

Part of the reason Curry earned that contract is due to his play in the 2017 season. Starting in all 16 games, Curry recorded three sacks, 42 tackles, and 18 tackles while helping Philadelphia win their first Super Bowl. During that postseason run, Curry recorded 10 combined tackles and four quarterback hits.

Curry initially entered the NFL as Philadelphia’s second-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. His first season in the NFL was rather uneventful, as the defensive lineman appeared in just six games, recording nine tackles and no sacks. His role grew in 2013, as Curry played in 14 games and recorded four sacks, 23 tackles, and seven quarterback hits. While he still wasn’t a starter, Curry managed to be an impact player in 2014. Playing in all 16 games, Curry recorded nine sacks, 19 tackles, and 11 quarterback hits. Additionally, the third-year defensive end recorded forced four fumbles over the course of the 2014 season.

Throughout his seven-year NFL career, Curry has recorded 24.5 sacks, 152 tackles, and 70 quarterback hits. Most of that production came with Philadelphia, as Curry recorded 22 sacks, 131 tackles, and 63 quarterback hits during his six years with the Eagles.
