Green Bay Packers Tight End Jimmy Graham Breaks Thumb

A rough season for the Green Bay Packers just got a little bit rougher. According to reports around the league, tight end Jimmy Graham suffered a broken thumb during Thursday Night’s 27-24 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport first reported the injury, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed said report.

Graham first suffered the injury midway through Green Bay’s Thursday Night faceoff against the Seattle Seahawks. While he was first listed as questionable to return, the first-year Packer never made it back to the field. As of right now, nobody knows the timetable for when Graham could return to the field, although the team hopes to have him back in 2018.

Graham first arrived in Green Bay after signing a three-year, $30 million deal in the 2018 off-season. The tight end carried a cap hit of 5.9 million in 2018 and will have a 12.67 million cap hit during the 2019 season. So far through 2018, Graham has recorded 34 receptions for 452 yards and two touchdowns in ten games.

Graham first entered the league as the New Orleans Saints third-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. After a modest rookie year, Graham exploded onto the scene in 2011, establishing himself as one of the best tight ends in all of football. Graham recorded 99 receptions for 1,310 yards and 11 touchdowns during 2011, helping Drew Brees set the NFL record for most passing yards in a season. His best season in New Orleans, however, came in 2013 when Graham recorded 86 receptions for 1,215 yards and a league-leading 16 touchdowns. This dominant performance earned his First-Team All-Pro honors.

The Saints traded Graham to the Seattle Seahawks in the summer of 2015 for a first-round pick and center Max Unger. Graham never reproduced his New Orleans heroics, as he recorded just 48 receptions for 605 yards and two touchdowns in his first season as a Seahawk. Over the course of his three years in Seattle, Graham recorded 170 receptions for 2,048 yards and 18 touchdowns.
