We’re only one game into the opening week of the 2018 season and fans are already discussing who deserves what for the NFL Awards at the end of the season. But what if the NFL Awards only pertained to Seattle Seahawks players? Below we see how Russell Wilson headlines the Seattle Seahawks award projections.
Seattle Seahawks Award Projections
MVP: Russell Wilson
Who else for MVP other than the Seahawks 2017 leading rusher? Russell Wilson is set to have another Pro Bowl season under new offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. Even with a nearly new receiver corp, Wilson is going to make plays in 2018 that will exceed expectations. Look for Wilson to improve upon his 37 total touchdowns, 3,983 passing yards, and 586 rushing yards in 2018.
Offensive Rookie of the Year: Rashaad Penny/Will Dissly
Offensive Rookie of the Year could either go to running back Rashaad Penny or tight end Will Dissly. Both are number two on the depth chart at their respective positions, so it’s really a waiting game to see which one can outshine the man ahead of them. Due to an impressive preseason, Chris Carson earned the starting running back role for Week One. However, Penny is right there behind him and ready to prove he’s worth a first-round pick.
Dissly is number two behind Nick Vannett, who hasn’t really owned up to his expectations since being drafted in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Because of this, Dissly will have the opportunity to grab the number one spot in the regular season. From the start, head coach Pete Carroll praised Dissly’s impressive blocking ability. This ability could help him see the field and relieve some of the pressure on the infamous offensive line.
Defensive Rookie of the Year: Rasheem Green
This award could very well go to Shaquem Griffin but once K.J. Wright returns to the lineup, Griffen will likely play more of a reserve role. Green has already made waves throughout the preseason with his stellar performances and is ready to help fill in the empty voids left by Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril.
Offensive Player of the Year: Doug Baldwin
Reaching the age of when wide receivers start to decline, Doug Baldwin is showing that he still has a lot of time on his clock. He finished 2017 with 991 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. Currently Wilson’s number one receiver on the team, Baldwin is set up to have another big year that could propel Seattle ahead in offensive rankings and into the playoffs.
Defensive Player of the Year: Bobby Wagner
This should be a given. Bobby Wagner has been a huge contributor for the Seahawks since they drafted him in 2012 and he’s once again going to have a big year. Last season, he had a combined 133 tackles and two interceptions and isn’t slowing down any time soon. Wagner will likely go to the Pro Bowl for his fifth year in the row.
Comeback Player of the Year: Chris Carson
Chris Carson made an immediate impact in the first game of the 2018 preseason after spending the majority of the 2017 season on injured reserve. Headed into week one, he is listed as the starting running back. If he can stay healthy, the Seahawks may finally be able to return to their Marshawn Lynch running days.
This award could have easily been handed to Cliff Avril or Kam Chancellor but both had to retire earlier this year due to threatening injuries.
