Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen Says He Would “Sign Up Tomorrow” to Play For New Team

Josh Allen has repeatedly made it clear that he wants to spend his entire NFL career with the Buffalo Bills. There is, however, one new team that would have him ready to sign up without a second thought. With flag football set to make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles, Allen admitted that the opportunity to represent the United States is a dream he has carried long before it became a realistic possibility.

New Team Josh Allen is Interested in Playing For

Speaking during an interview with two-time Olympic gold medalist Chris Lillis, Allen did not hesitate when asked about potentially joining a new team to compete on the Olympic stage.

“I would sign up tomorrow to be on the team,” Allen said. I’ve always dreamed of competing for my country and being able to wear my own gold medal, but we’ll see how it works.”

Allen’s response was not surprising, but it did offer a glimpse into the mindset that has helped make him one of the NFL’s premier quarterbacks. He did describe the opportunity in a way that would pad his resume. Instead, his first reaction centered on representing the United States and competing for a gold medal. Whether it is carrying the Bills’ championship expectations or taking on a completely different version of football on the international stage, Allen has rarely backed away from a challenge.

There is also another layer to his comments. NFL players have spent months debating whether participating in Olympic flag football is worth the injury risk, especially for franchise quarterbacks. Allen never dismissed those concerns, but he made it clear that representing his country is a unique opportunity that may only come around once in a lifetime. With the Olympics being held in Los Angeles and flag football making its Olympic debut, the chance to compete for Team USA carries a different level of significance than any offseason exhibition or promotional event.

For Allen, joining a new team would not be about stepping away from the Bills. It would be about chasing a dream that exists outside the NFL while wearing the colors of his country.

Would the Olympic Team Even Want Allen?

Allen admitted that he was not sure if the new team would consider having him.

“I don’t know if they’d want me,” Allen said. “I don’t know the ins-and-outs really of flag football. It was a much different game than I thought it would be. But I do think that if there is a potential space, I would love to do it.

Allen’s honesty is what makes this conversation so interesting. Despite being one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, he did not assume a spot on the Olympic roster would automatically be his. Instead, he acknowledged that flag football is a different sport with its own strategies, skill sets, and players who have spent years mastering it. That level of respect for the game suggests Allen understands that joining a new team would require earning the opportunity rather than receiving it because of his name alone.

Representing the USA Would Be a Dream Come True

Whether Allen is able to land a spot on this new team is still undetermined. What was undeniable was that this was much more than just a feather in Allen’s well-adorned cap. His only motivation would be to have the opportunity to represent the United States in international competition. If the opportunity presents itself and he is given the opportunity to play, there is little doubt Allen would wear the United States jersey with the same pride and passion he has always shown wearing a Bills uniform.
