Former Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri will be inducted into the team’s ring of honor against the Tennessee Titans in Week 6 of the 2026 NFL regular season. The ceremony will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium, where the Colts have their home games. It became home to many players over the years, and it surely did to Vinatieri.
Adam Vinatieri Career Overview
Vinatieri didn’t start his career in Indianapolis, as many may think. He played his college football at South Dakota State University from 1991 to 1994, playing both kicker and punter, lettering at each position. He went undrafted in the 1995 NFL Draft and later signed with the Amsterdam Admirals, which was a team in the World League of American Football. Vinatieri then signed with the New England Patriots in 1996.
He became a household name in the playoffs in 2002 when the Patriots took on the then-Oakland Raiders. Vinatieri got a game-tying field goal in the fourth quarter to send it to overtime. Then the famous “tuck rule” happened, and he kicked a 23-yard field goal in the snow in overtime to give New England the victory, and later did the same thing a few weeks later in Super Bowl 36 against the then St. Louis Rams. Tom Brady and company drove down the field, and Vinatieri kicked a game-winning 48-yard field goal, and the Patriots got the victory 20-17.
His streak in the playoffs continued. He became a Colt in 2006 after being an unrestricted free agent. That season, the Indianapolis Colts went on to win Super Bowl 41 against the Chicago Bears. Vinatieri stayed with the Colts for another 13 years, retiring in March 2021, after a knee injury ended his previous season.
Vinatieri is a staple in Colts and NFL history, being known for clutch kicks and being ready for the moment to win the game. When people saw Vinatieri go out to kick a field goal, he always had a good chance of making it.
Other Cotls Ring of Honorees
Vinatieri will be joining other Colts Ring of Honor inductees such as quarterback Peyton Manning, tight end Dallas Clark, defensive end Dwight Freeney, wide receiver Marvin Harrison, the late Owner Jim Irsay, and more. He’ll be the 21st Ring of Honor recipient for the franchise. Now Vinatieri’s legacy will forever be cemented in Lucas Oil Stadium.
He will also be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August 2026. Vinatieri will go down as one of the best in NFL history.
