Which Players Have the Most to Prove Ahead of New York Giants Training Camp in 2026?

Starting on July 23, rookies will report for the New York Giants Training Camp in 2026. These first-year players need a few days to get acclimated to what the team requires on and off the field. Veterans will report to training camp in West Virginia on July 28. Giants beat reporter Jordan Raanan announced that the team’s facilities are undergoing some renovations. That is why New York will start training camp at the Greenbrier in Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

Eventually, training camp will make its way back to the Quest Diagnostics training center in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The upcoming season will be John Harbaugh’s first year with the Giants. His experience is expected to help raise the team’s ceiling in 2026 and beyond. Ahead of the New York Giants Training Camp starting this month, which players have the most to prove?

Colton Hood, Cornerback

With the 37th overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft, the Giants selected Colton Hood out of Tennessee. The rookie cornerback was one of seventeen players invited to the green room for the first round of the NFL draft. However, Hood had to wait until the second round to hear his name called. He should enter the league with a chip on his shoulder because of it. On the team’s current depth chart, Hood is listed as a backup.

However, the rookie can use the New York Giants Training Camp as a springboard for his professional career. As of early July, Paulson Adebo is the only cornerback who is likely locked in as a starter. New York’s cornerback two position is up for grabs. Can the former Tennessee Volunteer make the most of his opportunity? Hood was a physical defensive back in college who excelled at man coverage and was not afraid to tackle. Both are traits the team is asking of their cornerbacks in Dennard Wilson’s defensive scheme. Will Hood be a starter for New York in 2026?

Malachi Fields, Wide Receiver

Ahead of the 2026 season, the Giants have made several changes to the roster. That includes an upgraded receiving core for second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart. New York added talent through free agency and the draft. One of the most intriguing additions for the Giants was wide receiver Malachi Fields. He was a third-round selection in the 2026 NFL Draft by the New York Giants out of Notre Dame. The 22-year-old offers a skill set the team has been missing in recent years.

At six-foot-four, 220 pounds, Fields was a dynamic receiver at the collegiate level. During his 2025 campaign, Fields averaged an explosive 17.5 yards per reception. He excelled at contested catches and high-pointing the football. While New York has added other talent to the wide receiver core, Fields could quickly become a player the team cannot keep off the field. The Giants would love to pair Fields with Malik Nabers for years to come. Can the rookie wide receiver put his skills on full display for the coaching staff at the New York Giants Training Camp?

Darius Alexander, Defensive Line

New York’s interior defensive line has a brand-new look heading into the upcoming season. First off, the Giants traded veteran Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals. Additionally, the team lost Roy Robertson-Harris after he suffered a torn Achilles in the spring. Several veteran defensive linemen have been added to the roster ahead of the 2026 season. However, one second-year defensive lineman is a projected starter and still has a lot left to prove.

Darius Alexander was a third-round pick by the Giants in 2025 out of Toledo. Alexander played in 16 of New York’s 17 games last season and made two starts. He finished the year with three-and-a-half sacks, 20 combined tackles, four tackles for loss, and six quarterback hits. The 25-year-old was on the field for 38% of the team’s defensive snaps in 2025. On the team’s current depth chart, Alexander is a starter in their base 3-4 defense. Can the second-year pro take advantage of his opportunity at the New York Giants Training Camp in July?
