The New England Patriots and New York Giants may agree to a deal in the latest NFL trade rumors, but with a twist before the 2026 campaign. According to a source, one analyst believes the Patriots could send WR Kayshon Boutte in exchange for edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux. While both Boutte and Thibodeaux have been named in several trade rumors this offseason, it wouldn’t make sense for the current Patriots receiver to join New York. The Giants have a logjam in their receiving unit, and they’re set to release at least two wideouts, including an unestablished Jalin Hyatt.
Between Malik Nabers and Darius Slayton as their top options, they have one of the strongest depths in the league. After signing Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin in free agency, where would Boutte fit in this offense? The team also drafted Malachi Fields, who is expected to get some playing time during the 2026 season. Oh, and nobody should forget about veteran Odell Beckham Jr., and he’s likely getting starting reps come Week 1.
Meanwhile, of course, it would solve the Patriots’ defensive pass-rush issues, but that’s if they’re moving on from Harold Landry before the season. New England drafted Gabe Jacas this year while signing Dre’Mont Jones to a deal to address those issues. Could it be Thibodeaux that eventually replaces Landry or Robert Spillane?

NFL Trade Rumors: Patriots, Giants Connected in $14M Massive Package
Is Thibodeaux Necessary for New England?
Before anyone gets ahead of themselves, yes, the Patriots would like to add him to the rotational mix, but is it needed? Probably not; the Patriots might have to play the slow game and evaluate where they are during the 2026 season. The very least New England can do is keep the Giants pass-rusher on their radar. Despite the Patriots signing Romeo Doubs and trading for AJ Brown, don’t expect Boutte to be moved until right before the trade deadline.
If the Giants have another struggling year, it’d make things easier for head coach Mike Vrabel to snag Thibodeaux right before the postseason. Now, this would be a better scenario, and that’s if QB Jaxson Dart, RB Cam Skattebo and head coach John Harbaugh can’t stay on the same page this campaign. For Boutte, let’s explore some other better suitors for him if New England wants to trade him during the season.
Potential Fits
Los Angeles Chargers
Now, here’s a team that needs a huge wake-up call in their aerial attack. The Los Angeles Chargers are entering the 2026 season with one of the most inexperienced receiving groups. With Justin Herbert as your QB, are the Chargers really helping him win? Nope. The Chargers were close to acquiring DK Metcalf last offseason but failed to land him after he joined the Steelers.
Veteran free agent Keenan Allen will probably return if they don’t like what they see behind Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston. However, they need some stardom in the receiving group. Boutte is one of the most underrated pass-catchers and can elevate this offense next to McConkey.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams could be looking to add a veteran WR before the 2026 season. With Davante Adams possibly playing his final NFL season, it’d be sensible for the team to build its receiver core around Puka Nacua. 2026 first-round pick Ty Simpson will probably take over the reins once Matthew Stafford retires, but he’s going to need playmakers to carry the torch.
Boutte could be the perfect first step to building a reliable supporting cast for the QB.
Indianapolis Colts
Meanwhile, other than Josh Downs and Alec Pierce, the Indianapolis Colts wide receiver outlook looks like a complete disaster. Ashton Dulin is set to fight for a starting role, but that’s unlikely. They’re reportedly mulling a receiver, but they may need to sacrifice to get an All-Around playmaker. Boutte would be the perfect replacement after trading Michael Pittman this offseason to Pittsburgh.
