Drake Maye Addresses Shoulder, Illness Concerns

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is battling a shoulder injury and an illness as his team prepares for Super Bowl LX against the Seattle Seahawks. The quarterback reportedly had been playing hurt the past few weeks and further injured his shoulder against the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game, while the illness is a relatively new development. While it kept him out of practice last week, these don’t appear to be major issues.

During a recent interview, the quarterback said that even though he didn’t practice, he still had a normal day of work.

“Got out there moving around for a good bit,” Maye said. “We did a jog through, so I’m feeling good and looking forward to being ready to go. This is the game you dream of playing, so looking forward to getting out there and playing in the Super Bowl.”

Drake Maye Speaks on Injured Shoulder, Illness

Despite the shoulder injury and illness, it’s safe to assume that Drake Maye will play in the Super Bowl. After all, it’s easily the biggest game of his career, and, seeing as he hasn’t missed a game this season, it’s hard to envision him sitting out this one.

The illness will likely pass in a few days, but the shoulder injury is a concern. All reports out of New England indicate it isn’t a structural issue but more of a fatigue problem. This is easily the longest stretch of play of Maye’s entire career, and his arm is a little sore from the extended workload. Fortunately, he’s only 23, so hopefully a bit of rest and an extended week of preparation can have him at his best for the showdown against the loaded Seattle Seahawks defense. The Seahawks are currently 4.5-point favorites in the big game.
