Josh Jacobs Injury Update: Star RB’s Status Revealed Ahead of Packers-Cardinals

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs is battling illness and a calf injury and may not be able to play in Week 7’s contest against the Arizona Cardinals. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the former first-round pick’s status is “up in the air,” and he is a true game-time decision.

Josh Jacobs Injury Status Revealed Ahead of Packers-Cardinals

From the sounds of it, the Packers won’t officially know whether or not Josh Jacobs can play until he tests out his injury before the game. However, the team promoted running back Pierre Strong from the practice squad to the active roster, which is not a good sign. Perhaps Jacobs can surprise everyone and suit up, but Strong’s presence suggests Green Bay doesn’t expect to have their star running back in the lineup.

If this injury sidelines Josh Jacobs, fantasy football owners should target Emanuel Wilson. Wilson, a former undrafted free agent, is Jacobs’ primary backup and has played well in limited snaps. The running back has recorded 84 yards and 18 carries this season and averages 5.0 yards per attempt throughout his three-year career. While he has never earned an NFL start, he has played well in limited opportunities and should find decent success behind Green Bay’s offensive line.

Josh Jacobs first joined the Green Bay Packers after spending the first five years of his career with the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders. The first-round pick took the league by storm in 2024, recording 1,329 yards and 15 touchdowns during his first season in Wisconsin. He’s picked up where he left off in 2025, posting 359 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 98 carries through the first five games of the season.
