Jeffery Simmons is probably the best player on the Tennessee Titans and the team could probably receive a high return for him in a trade. Currently sitting at 1-5 and having already fired their head coach, the Titans season is effectively over, and nobody would blame them for selling at the trade deadline as they embrace a rebuild.
However, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport says this will not happen. Despite their subpar record, the Titans reportedly have no interest in trading Jeffery Simmons. For better or worse, the 28-year-old defensive tackle will spend the remainder of the season in Nashville.
REPORT: Tennessee Titans Will Not Trade Jeffery Simmons
Even though the Tennessee Titans aren’t playing their best football, Jeffery Simmons is still having a productive season. Through six games, the former first-round pick has recorded 4.5 sacks, 28 tackles, eight tackles-for-loss, and 11 quarterback hits, while his 85.3 PFF grade ranks sixth out of 122 eligible interior defenders.
Even though the Titans won’t compete this year, it’s easy to see why they don’t want to trade Jeffery Simmons. The star defensive tackle is under contract through the 2027 season, and Cam Ward’s rookie contract means they should be able to afford his cap hit in later seasons, provided he maintains his high level of play.
Jeffery Simmons originally entered the league as a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Selected by the Tennessee Titans, injuries limited the Mississippi product to just nine games in his rookie season. Despite the injury status, he still recorded two sacks, 32 tackles, four tackles-for-loss, and seven quarterback hits during his inaugural campaign. With his help, Tennessee made it to the AFC Championship Game before losing to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Since entering the league, Jeffery Simmons has recorded 36 sacks, 337 tackles, 57 tackles-for-loss, and 77 quarterback hits while making three Pro Bowl rosters.
