2024 Dynasty Fantasy Football Quarterback Rankings

Dynasty quarterback rankings need to adjust with injury news, starting reps and 2024 projections. Adjust accordingly.
Dynasty Quarterback Rankings 2024

While the rest of the world gets ready for their redraft leagues, the real ones are still deep in the dynasty grind. As leagues get more active, moving around quarterback tiers can be a useful strategy to gather value for dynasty managers in fantasy football.

2024 Dynasty Fantasy Football Quarterback Rankings

Tier 1 – Keystone Quarterbacks

From a real football perspective, obviously Mahomes is the number one option. But on a PPG basis, Hurts and Allen still hold the top marks over the past three seasons. Unless you’re worried about the longevity of the top options (which is fair) the points now are worth more. No need to move any of them, even if you’re trying to start a rebuild.

Tier 2 – Points and Promise

  • Lamar Jackson
  • Caleb Williams
  • Kyler Murray
  • C.J. Stroud
  • Anthony Richardson
  • Joe Burrow
  • Jayden Daniels
  • Jordan Love

It’s a big tier, but the difference between Stroud and Murray shouldn’t be as big as it is among consensus. There’s a very real possibility Stroud doesn’t have the same yearly upside as other names on this list, but he’s shown he is the truth and will be a big time quarterback in the league for a very long time. Richardson and Daniels will have elite spike weeks and seasons, but their ability to hang around the NFL for a long time will be in question until their second contract comes in. Risk seeking managers will want the rushing options in this tier, while risk averse managers will stick to the Burrows and Loves of the world with plenty of job security. No wrong answer here, just different ways to play the game.

Tier 3 – Upside and Veterans With a Stigma

  • Justin Herbert
  • Trevor Lawrence
  • Brock Purdy
  • Dak Prescott
  • Drake Maye
  • Jared Goff
  • Tua Tagovailoa

Herbert is a top five real NFL quarterback. Well, at least according to Peyton Manning he is, and that’s good enough for this author. Lawrence and Herbert have had a string of rough luck to start their NFL careers, but have the individual talent to be low end QB1s or high end QB2s for fantasy. Purdy has his haters all over the dynasty and real NFL streets, but as long as he’s the starting quarterback for San Francisco he’s a value in dynasty fantasy football rankings. Prescott and Tua continue to be discounted, but have contract security and are in environments that air it out. Moving from a riskier rushing quarterback to one of these guys is a great way to rebuild, as they won’t be going away anytime soon.

Drake Maye will be a hot button topic until he finally gets a chance to ball out. He has all the tools in his toolbox, and every week Jacoby Brissett starts over him an angel loses their wings. If any quarterback from this tier moves up in the next two months, it’s Maye.

Tier 4 – Mystery Boxes and Sad Contracts

  • J.J. McCarthy
  • Baker Mayfield
  • Will Levis
  • Bo Nix
  • Kirk Cousins
  • Bryce Young
  • Michael Penix
  • Matthew Stafford
  • Geno Smith
  • Deshaun Watson
  • Justin Fields

McCarthy’s season ending injury was brutal for Vikings fans, but also dynasty managers won’t get to see if McCarthy is worth their first round rookie pick investment or not until next season. Pre-draft, McCarthy was ranked as Last Word on Sports’ QB4, but he needs repetitions. Levis and Nix are on opposite ends of the dynasty quarterback spectrum, with one playing like he’s invincible and the other making checkdowns his whole personality. Competing teams will want one of Mayfield, Stafford or Smith, but the upside of the rookies can’t be discounted. Justin Fields vs Deshaun Watson is the saddest ranking on the entire list. If Fields plays, even if he still has similar problems airing it out, he’s a top 10 weekly option with his legs. Watson has the contract and the buy-in from the organization to be their guy, but the shoulder hasn’t looked much better so far. Both have the same floor looking ahead, but Watson is unfortunately the better bet right now.

Tier 5 – Rentals and Reruns

  • Aaron Rodgers
  • Daniel Jones
  • Derek Carr
  • Gardner Minshew

Looking for a cheap bye week fill in? Looking for a stop gap at QB2 while you wait on a QB injury? Look no further. It’s not pretty, but these guys can keep a team afloat in fantasy during dark times. Rebuilding teams should sell these options quickly for any future second.

Tier 6 – Also Play Football Sometimes

  • Russell Wilson
  • Sam Darnold
  • Sam Howell
  • Jacoby Brissett
  • Spencer Rattler

Either the starter is hurt, they’re the projected Week 1 starter on a short leash, or the starter is on a short leash of their own. Worth rostering even in shallower leagues just in case they get more runs than we expect.
