Oakland Raider Fans, Derek Carr is One of You

Derek Carr took questions about the Oakland Raiders move to Las Vegas yesterday at the Raiders press conference. Carr stayed true to his feelings as a fan of Oakland and it fans.

“We Have Our Fans Here we have to take care of, that’s really important to me.” – Derek Carr

He went on to say he would focus on giving everything he could to Oakland for the remaining time the Raiders played there.

And its true. Derek and the Raiders will go out and put their best foot forward. In fact, many of the players on the roster this year will probably not be when the team moves. 2020 is three years away. Take a look at the Raiders 2014 roster to give you an idea just how much turnover this team has had.

Still though, some fans have decided to call it quits over the relocation. And that is their right. Being a Raiders fan is a choice, and there is nothing wrong with that. Fans had to make that choice in 82′ when the team left for Los Angeles. L.A. Raider fans had to make that choice in 95′. Life goes on, and so does the Raider Nation.

However, there are some who are no longer fans who are having trouble letting go. Instead they want the team to fail. Or they want to demonize Mark Davis or the players who support the move. Mark Davis already told the fans to blame him at the NFL Owners meeting.

“Don’t blame the coaches or players, blame me” – Mark Davis

Derek Carr had a few words for those particular former fans yesterday.

“We’re not going to split up like you’ve seen other cities do, we’re not going to do things like that. For the ones that do, I don’t really believe that they are true Raider fans. I feel their hurt. I’m with you. I hurt, too. But at the same time, we’re all in this together, and we’re just going to do it together.” – Derek Carr

Overall a positive message about those fans who will continue to follow the Raiders. However those former fans who have emotional issues chose to take offense to a certain line.

“I don’t really believe that they are true Raider fans”

And they are not. They might have been for a certain period of time. But if they quit being a fan of the Raiders, or any other team, for any reason, then they are not a true fan. They are not a fan at all anymore. Again nothing wrong with that all by itself. Its only when they start acting immature is when it becomes a problem. If they go out of their way to insult players, or those who remain fans, then they only really cared about themselves to begin with. Its a very immature and selfish act.

My advice to them is grow up and stop with the, threats, insults, and childish behavior. Try less sodium in your periscopes and twitter posts and we all will be better for it.

In the end, all Derek Carr said was, for those who remain true to the Raiders, he will stay true to them.

“We’re all just going to do it together.”
