The best remaining free agent wide receiver Hunter Renfrow is still on the market but could sign soon this offseason. Renfrow still available in free agency has many people scratching their heads wondering why the Pro Bowl hasn’t found a new home. It hasn’t been the ideal offseason for the veteran wideout but every month his value goes down, the more chances he gets to sign with a team. Sports Illustrated’s Gilberto Manzano ranked Renfrow sixth on his top 10 NFL free agents that are still available.
What’s a bigger mystery is why the Raiders weren’t using Renfrow after his breakout season in 2021, notching 103 catches, 1,038 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. However, if teams suffer some injuries at the wideout position this season then they could turn an eye at the 28-year-old for a visit. It’s still surprising that Renfrow next to Michael Thomas are the best available receivers on the market. One would speculate why Thomas is still available given his track record of injuries and off-field issues.
However, Renfrow’s availability is still a shock considering there are teams that need depth at the position. Despite his poor performance in 2022 and 2023, it wasn’t his fault that he didn’t get much playing time. Renfrow was becoming an afterthought when the Raiders signed Davante Adams who is arguably one of the best wideouts in the league. Las Vegas drafted Renfrow in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, a class that included star edge rusher, Maxx Crosby.
It’s still troubling why Renfrow is still available so someone has to make a move soon right? He hasn’t been showing any signs of slowing down so his signing could come at any time. It’s a matter of time before the Clemson product will find a new home.

What’s Next for Him?
It doesn’t seem to be Renfrow’s fault for his drop in production the past two seasons. Josh McDaniels arrival to Las Vegas two years ago didn’t give him a chance and was only able to score two touchdowns in total. Renfrow stumbled down the depth chart but it didn’t help make his case to return to Las Vegas under new management. It seems like the luck wasn’t on the side for the Pro Bowler in his career which could lead to speculation of retirement.
A change of scenery and an opportunity to be a starter is what Renfrow needs. He’s been able to help the Raiders make the playoffs in his tenure with the team. He could do the same thing with a new team but the right opportunity. Here are some potential destinations for Renfrow.
Potential Destinations
The New Orleans Saints are a no-brainer for Renfrow considering the chemistry he has with Derek Carr. There’s some upside to this duo and it would be a significant upgrade alongside Chris Olave. Carr is already on thin ice with his inconsistency so this is probably the missing puzzle piece to his woes. Saints are sticking with Carr so they may as well get him a receiver with some familiarity.
However, there’s no better upgrade to one’s career for Renfrow to regain his confidence in the Chiefs offense. Rashee Rice is expected to receive a major suspension for this upcoming season. Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy have starter potential but it doesn’t seem like Brown is the long-term solution for their wideout woes. Kadarius Toney may not be in the plans of his inconsistencies so they might as well get Renfrow in a low-cost move.
The Los Angeles Chargers need all the receivers they need since the departures of Mike Williams and Keenan Allen. Justin Herbert doesn’t have a proven receiver so there may be some trouble for Jim Harbaugh’s first year. Some receivers have untapped potential but they may as well get an experienced wideout with proven talent.
