Potential suitors Jaguars

Here are three potential receiver suitors for the AFC South Team, the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason after adding two wideouts this free agency. The Jaguars were able to agree to terms with Gabe Davis and Devin Duvernay, but they’re probably fit for depth while they’re looking for a Calvin Ridley replacement. However, there are still some options out there for Jacksonville despite the Stefon Diggs trade buzz around the league.

This is good news for teams like the Jaguars who are still looking for a receiver, they won’t have to spend big money on a new weapon. Technically, the Diggs trade probably made the receiver for the worst but many targets market value has gone down. This is useful for teams like the Jaguars who aren’t trying to spend money on a veteran who may have a high track record of injuries. However, no team plans to spend any time soon to examine a low-cost veteran, rather focusing on this year’s draft.

The Jaguars may have lost their receiver to rival, Tennessee Titans but there’s still room for the team to improve their roster. However, many AFC teams are still exploring the receiver market to add last-minute additions. The Chargers are exploring free-agent wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling so that may be one receiver on the move soon. There are still Michael Thomas, Odell Beckham Jr. and Michael Gallup who can be legit starters to be a unique replacement for Ridley.

The Jaguars have been one of the biggest instigators on day one of the legal tampering period of NFL Free Agency. Other than Davis and Duvernay, they also brought in Darnell Savage, Mitch Morse and Ronald Darby to bolster their roster. Here are three potential receiver suitors for the Jaguars.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling

Valdez-Scantling has been a name floating around the league as a potential suitor for the Chargers and Jaguars. It’s worth mentioning that wherever he lands, it won’t affect any team’s 2025 compensatory picks given his release earlier this offseason. The South Florida product was selected in the fifth round by the Packers in 2018. The receiver later took his talent to the two-time Super Bowl Champions, where the offensive receiving corps struggled.

The Chiefs let Valdes-Scantling go due to salary cap issues. Kansas City traded away one of their top superstars, L’Jarius Sneed to create room for their financial situation. They were able to retrieve most of their players on one-year deals and sign Carson Wentz. However, Valdes-Scantling is still a hot name on the market that can be a replacement for Ridley as WR1.

He appeared in 16 games for Kansas City and caught 21 passes on 42 targets for 315 receiving yards and one touchdown. Valdes-Scantling will be a name floating around after this year’s draft.

Odell Beckham Jr.

The Jaguars haven’t done enough for quarterback Trevor Lawrence to go above and beyond. However, the team was able to make a postseason but only so far before getting knocked out before a Super Bowl run. Beckham could become a suitor for the Jaguars after his short stint with the Ravens. It took a while for him to hit his stride after tearing his ACL in 2022 but he was able to notch 15 receptions for 307 yards and one touchdown.

It isn’t the best, but if he gets more touches again then he could explode. His chance could come as Lawrence’s favorite. However, there are rumors that the Dolphins are close to signing Beckham. He wouldn’t get the same opportunity in Miami as in Jacksonville since the Dolphins already have Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

Michael Thomas

Here’s a suitor that seems more likely to land with the Jaguars. After his release, there haven’t been many rumors of any team that is interested in him. This could be his opportunity to start new in Jacksonville as a potential WR1 and he can explode at any moment. He’s still dealing with a track record of injuries but with a starting role, he’ll be ready for it.
