After two games of the 2023 NFL season, the Denver Broncos year was over. And it was so obvious, so painfully true, that there were more reasons the Broncos should keep losing than try to win another game. Well, things aren’t looking any better after an utterly embarrassing loss, a win over a terrible team, another loss to a beatable club, and record-breaking ineptitude. There are still countless reasons for Denver to lose every game the rest of the season. And fans have started understanding that the Broncos needn’t win anymore, and no one in the league is blaming them.
The Broncos Needn’t Win Anymore
A Love Letter
In Denver, the fan base speaking – the Broncos needn’t win anymore. This is the sentiment of Broncos Country, a group of diehard fans who have seen the ups and downs that every franchise goes through. But this year is different, this year it’s somehow far worse. The Broncos faithful have seen the signs and they know that the season is over, in fact, they have known it for weeks. And yet, the team is still trying to win, with no players or coaches to blame for not giving up, it’s their job, after all. But someone has to speak the truth, and it’s the fan base that has taken up the regrettable task – throwing in the proverbial towel.
A Lost Season
This season was almost over before it began, and it is over now. Nothing is left to do but lose, as the schedule gets harder and the playoffs get further away. The Broncos are 1-5 now, they will most certainly go 1-8 soon, and there is almost no possible way to break .500 on the year. Honestly, they might not win another game, period. And they shouldn’t. It’s time to tank, if not literally on the field then essentially in effort and preparation. The Broncos needn’t win anymore, it simply isn’t worth it. A higher draft pick is the only possible positive coming after this unmitigated disaster – don’t mess that up too.
Why The Broncos Needn’t Win Anymore
So, what’s left to do? A fire sale wouldn’t be a bad idea, cut loose everything unnecessary and start over from scratch. Tear down the losing culture, and attempt to move on to something new, it might be worth a shot. Also, admitting what has been done wrong couldn’t hurt either. Was Vance Joseph a bad hire? Was Sean Payton a mistake? Is Russell Wilson done? Do more players need to be cut as examples for the team as a whole? There may not be one right answer, but this season has to cost more and bring about more than the ire of an angry fan base.
Regardless, there isn’t a reason to try to compete in another game, the Broncos needn’t win anymore. Let the fans stay home and watch other games on NFL Sunday Ticket. Let the faithful check out so that they don’t have to keep torturing themselves. And let the team be honest about the season, knowing that it is a disaster far better than Broncos Country ever could since they play the games. This has been an embarrassment and a failure – let it end before the team loses more than a few meaningless games, let it go before the team loses all its dignity.
