Freshly-Paid Ravens Rookie Impressing Coaches, Teammates Alike

Ravens Skill Positions

The Baltimore Ravens and their 2023 first-round draft pick Zay Flowers have come to terms on a contract agreement. Flowers, the final Ravens rookie to sign, was able to come away with the most lucrative contract of the bunch. The agreement includes a fully guaranteed $14 million over four years, with a $7.2 million signing bonus. Flowers was the 22nd pick in this year’s draft and has been a standout in minicamp, garnering the attention of both teammates and coaches.

Zay Flowers Impressing Everyone In Ravens Organization

Zay Flowers is a 5 foot 9, 185-pound speed demon with sure hands, solid route running, and an excellent ability to run after the catch. Although generally considered undersized, Flowers’ on field production as a senior at Boston College suggests that his talent will not be overshadowed by his lack of size. In 2022, Flowers caught 78 passes for over 1,000 yards, and 12 touchdowns en route to his first-round selection in this year’s draft.

Playing four full seasons at Boston College, Zay Flowers set almost every statistical receiving record at the program. From 2019-2022, Flowers is:

  • 1st in career touchdown receptions (29)
  • 1st in career receptions (200)
  • 1st in career receiving yards(3,056)
  • 1st in single season touchdown receptions (12)
  • 1st in single season receptions (78)
  • 1st in single-game touchdown receptions (3)

Flowers’ college production and intangible abilities leave the Ravens with immense hope that his talent will translate to their new-look offense under veteran offensive coordinator Todd Monken.

Impact on Ravens Offense

Zay Flowers will look to come in and make his mark on the Ravens offense right from the start. Flowers’ speed, hands, and big play ability makes him the perfect running mate for quarterback Lamar Jackson, who has desperately needed production from the receiver position. With the additions of Odell Beckham Jr, Nelson Agholor, and Zay Flowers, Jackson may just receive the help he’s been clamoring for. As for Flowers, he may not be tall, but he is not short on confidence. When asked what he brings to the table at OTA’S, his response was “I feel like I’m a complete receiver, I can do it all. You name it, I’ll be able to do it”

Flowers also feels like he and offensive coordinator Todd Monken will be on the same page. When asked about early impressions of Monken’s playbook, Flowers said “I love it. It’s kind of like the stuff I ran at BC, I think it fits my style perfectly.” When asked if Flowers would prefer to be used as a slot receiver, he said “I honestly don’t have a preference because I feel like I can run every route on the outside and every route on the inside, so I don’t really have a preference.”

Flowers has been a focal point in mini-camp, receiving tons of coaching and constantly working on his game amongst veteran leadership as Flowers, Monken, and the Ravens look to turn the tide this season.
