Eagles Day 3

Philadelphia Eagles Day 3 NFL Draft Targets

The Philadelphia Eagles have had an NFL Draft to remember so far, but they still have to get through Day 3 before they can officially call it a draft class. The team has four picks in the final three rounds, but none until the sixth round. So, let’s take a look at the players that might still be on the board at that time and see who could help the Eagles build a more complete roster.

Note that, for the sake of this exercise, we are going to assume that some of the best players currently on the board will not be available by the time the Eagles are on the clock. So, anyone hoping to find guys like Kelee Ringo, Dawand Jones, or Roschon Johnson on this list will be disappointed.

Editors note: This article was published before the Eagles acquired the pick used to select Kelee Ringo.

4 Philadelphia Eagles Day 3 NFL Draft Targets

1. Olusegun Oluwatimi, C

Jason Kelce is still a stud, but he isn’t getting any younger. Philadelphia’s longtime star center openly contemplated retirement last offseason, so it’s safe to assume he won’t be around for too much longer. Olusegun Oluwatimi is no Jason Kelce (obviously) but he could compete for a starting job down the line. He’s a fundamentally sound player that lacks the athleticism for superstardom but could provide a stabilizing presence as a reliable guard.

2. DeWayne McBride, RB

General Manager Howie Roseman is a big believer in positional value, which explains why he has yet to address the massive hole at running back. Rashaad Penny is a good player when healthy, but he has yet to survive a full season of NFL work. Philadelphia wil likely need their backup to play significant snaps, and DeWayne McBride could be a nice complement to Kenneth Gainwell. While he won’t do much of anything as a receiver, McBride provides a strong, physical style of running and can knock linebackers down with ease. Seeing as the Eagles will likely face lighter boxes due to the presence of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, McBride should be very effective on early-down touches.

3. Cory Trice, CB

There is no such thing as too many reliable defensive backs in today’s NFL, and Cory Trice could provide the Eagles with a solid depth guy on Day 3 of the draft. While he’s not the fastest guy in the draft, he has the size and physicality to stay with intermediate threats in man coverage and possesses solid ball skills. While you probably don’t want him starting, he can be effective in sub-packages.

4. Kayshon Boutte, WR

The Philadelphia Eagles could use another reliable wide receiver, so they could take a shot at Kayshon Boutte during Day 3 of the NFL Draft. Boutte has impressive production against elite college competition, and a glance at the film makes it easy to see why. He’s elusive in the open field and breaks tackles with ease, and while he’s not going to win too many footraces, he’s a good complement as the third or fourth option in this receiver room. While there is a chance he’s gone before the Eagles are on the clock, it’s worth noting that a poor Pro Day performance stemming from an ankle injury could sink his draft stock.
