James Bradberry Signs Contract With Philadelphia Eagles

NFL veteran cornerback James Bradberry IV signed a new contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. Bradberry spent 2022 with the Philadelphia Eagles. He spent two seasons with the New York Giants. Previously he spent four seasons with the Carolina Panthers.

Bradberry was having a really solid season prior to the Super Bowl. It is a real shame he will only be remembered for the penalty in the closing moments of the game. Signed to a one-year deal, the cornerback was one of the most important members of a dominant defense. Braberry only allowed a 51.6 passer rating when targeted, and allowed a measly two touchdowns. This is despite being targeted 86 times in 2022.

The Carolina Panthers drafted Bradberry in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Bradberry started every game he has played in since entering the league. Unfortunately, Bradberry missed three games during his rookie season due to a bad case of turf toe. His next three years were pedestrian, never exceptional, and never eclipsing three interceptions. He had arguably his best season in the last year of his deal. In 2019 he allowed only a 70.1 passer rating when targeted, and recorded three interceptions. The Panthers did not re-sign Bradberry at the conclusion of his rookie deal.

Following his time in Carolina, Bradberry signed a three-year $45 million deal to go to New York. His first season in New York he was selected for the 2020 NFL Pro Bowl. In 2021 and with minimal pass rush in front of him, he struggled in New York. In his second season, he restructured his contract twice to allow the Giants to create more cap space. This restructuring made it easier for the Giants to cut Bradberry in the 2022 NFL off-season. He would go on to sign a one-year, $7.5 million contract for the Eagles. He was selected to the All-Pro second team in 2022.
