Marcus Epps hits free agency on the heels of the most successful season of his career. Starting and appearing in all 17 games, the safety finished the season with 94 tackles, four tackles-for-loss, and six passes defended. Epps finished the season with an unremarkable 56.3 overall PFF grade, but he did record an impressive 79.9 grade for his work against the run.
Epps originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Selected by the Minnesota Vikings, the Wyoming product spent the first offseason of his career battling for a spot on the Week 1 roster. While he made the team originally, the Vikings decided to cut him after eight games. From there, Epps signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, and the rest is history. During his time between the two organizations, the rookie appeared in 15 games, recording six tackles while primarily playing special teams.
The safety returned to the Eagles in 2020 and earned a larger role on the defense. Appearing in 14 games while making five starts, Marcus Epps finished the second year of his contract with two interceptions, four passes defended, and 47 tackles. The Eagles, meanwhile, went 4-11-1, missing the playoffs and finishing last in a weak NFC East.
Epps played a similar role as a rotational safety during the 2021 campaign. Appearing in 16 games while making three starts, the Wyoming product recorded one interception, five passes defended, and 62 tackles as the Eagles made it back to the playoffs.
Since signing his rookie contract, Marcus Epps has appeared in 62 games while making 25 starts. While on the field, the former sixth-round pick recorded three interceptions, 15 passes defended, 209 tackles, and four tackles-for-loss.
