Ben Powers Signs Contract With Denver Broncos

NFL veteran guard Ben Powers signed a new contract with the Denver Broncos. Powers, a former fourth-round pick, spent the entirety of his career with the Baltimore Ravens.

Ben Powers chose a good year to hit free agency. Starting and appearing in all 17 games, the offensive lineman had what was probably the best season of his young career, helping to propel the Ravens back into the playoffs after missing out on postseason action in 2021. According to Pro Football Focus, Powers didn’t allow a single sack all year long, and only allowed one quarterback hit.

Powers originally entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Selected by the Baltimore Ravens, the Oklahoma product needed some time before he was ready to contribute on the NFL stage. While Lamar Jackson was in the midst of a unanimous MVP campaign, Powers was inactive for the first 17 games before his NFL debut in the final week of the season. While he didn’t earn the start, he did play the majority of the snaps in a game where Baltimore pulled most of their starters.

Despite the slow start to his career, Powers made some dramatic improvement over the 2020 offseason and earned a larger role on the team. Appearing in all 16 games while making seven starts, the offensive lineman helped the Ravens make it back to the playoffs. The team got revenge on the Tennessee Titans during the first round of the playoffs before falling to the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round.

Powers flipped to the left side of the offensive line in 2021, but remained a reliable blocker for Lamar Jackson and, later in the season, Tyler Huntley. While the team didn’t make the playoffs, Powers still had a respectable season in the 13 game he was healthy enough to suit up for.

Since signing his rookie contract, Powers has played in 47 of a possible 66 games at both the right and left guard positions.
