2022 was yet another productive season for Juan Thornhill. Starting and appearing in 16 games, the safety finished his fourth season in the league with three interceptions, nine passes defended, one sack, 71 tackles, four tackles-for-loss, and two quarterback hits. Thornhill finished the year with a 71.8 PFF grade, good for 26th best among 89 eligible players.

Juan Thornhill originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Selected by the Kansas City Chiefs, the Virginia product came straight from college to claim a starting spot. Starting in all 16 games, Thornhill finished his inaugural campaign with three interceptions, five passes defended, and 58 tackles. Partially thanks to his efforts, the Chiefs finished the season by winning the Super Bowl for the first time in 50 years.

After that promising rookie season, Thornhill took a minor step back in 2020. While he was still a good player, he only started in eight of Kansas City’s 16 games while recording one interception, three passes defended, 41 sacks, and one quarterback hit. For the second consecutive season, the Chiefs made the Super Bowl. However, this time they fell 31-9 to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Thornhill improved in 2021, coming close to matching his rookie play. He appeared in all 17 games, making 12 starts and recording one interception, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, 64 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, and one quarterback hit. For the first time in his career, Thornhill did not get to play in the Super Bowl, as the Chiefs fell to the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship Game.

Since signing his rookie contract, Juan Thornhill has played in 65 regular season games and has made 52 starts. During his time on the field, the Virginia product has recorded eight interceptions, 20 passes defended, one sack, 234 tackles, five tackles-for-loss, and four quarterback hits.
