After missing a sizable portion of the 2021 season, Jones returned to the Patriots starting lineup in 2022. Starting and playing in 16 of a possible 17 games, the former undrafted free agent finished the season with four interceptions, 11 passes defended, three forced fumbles, and 69 tackles. Working primarily out of the slot, Jones recorded a 68.1 PFF grade, making him the 41st-best corner by their grading.
Jones originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent. Signing with the New England Patriots after the draft, the Auburn product spent the majority of his rookie season playing special teams. He still found his way onto the defense though, and he recorded one pass defended, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, 14 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, and one quarterback hit. Jones capped off his first year in the league by winning Super Bowl 51 against the Atlanta Falcons.
Jones earned a larger role in 2017, earning a larger role as New England’s slot cornerback. Appearing in all 16 games, Jones finished the season with one interception, one fumble recovery, one sack, 44 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, and two quarterback hits. While the Patriots made it all the way to the playoffs, Jones suffered a season-ending injury in the Wild Card round, sidelining him for the final two games of New England’s postseason run.
Jones returned to the field in 2018 and was one of the most important defenders on the Super Bowl roster. Appearing in all 16 games, the slot cornerback finished the season with a career-high three interceptions, seven passes defended, one forced fumble, 1.5 sacks, 56 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, and three quarterback hits. He was also primarily responsible for slowing down Tyreek Hill in the 2018 AFC Championship Game, and his impressive play was a big reason New England was able to pull off the upset.
