The New York Giants fired head coach Joe Judge today. Judge’s firing came after the Giants lost 22-7 to the Washington Football Team in the team’s season finale. At 4-13, the Giants missed the playoffs for a fifth consecutive season.

New York Giants Part Ways With Joe Judge
In early December, SNY football insider Ralph Vacchiano reported that Judge’s job appeared safe for 2022. But his status went up in the air following the Giants six-game losing streak to close out the season. The team’s offensive efficiency was the point of contention for Judge’s dismissal. The Giants were outscored 163-56 in those final six losses of the 2021 season.
Despite having “the respect of the players” in the locker room, Judge finished 10-22 in his two seasons as Giants head coach. The franchise will be looking for their fourth head coach since removing Tom Coughlin from the position following the 2015 season.
Team owners, John Mara and Steve Tisch, will give the new general manager a voice in selecting the next head coach of the franchise. The search to find a new head coach will be a comprehensive, collaborative process.
However, Mara and Tisch feel a foundation is in place for the Giants to accomplish great things. But progress is still needed to achieve the ultimate goal of playing postseason football. Together, they will find the best leader and head coach for the Giants and their fans. And the next regime to run organization will be given every resource available to earn their goal of putting a competitive football team on the field each week.
Moving forward, hiring a new general manager and head coach will almost guarantee a new starting quarterback underneath center for the Giants as well. Currently, the G-Men hold the fourth and seventh overall pick (received in a trade with the Chicago Bears) in spring’s NFL Draft, and six picks in the first 110 selections.
