The third week of the fantasy football season raises questions as to who to start. The players talked about below are borderline starters in most leagues. Here is the start ’em sit ’em for the fantasy football week three slate of games.
Jones, Williams Headline Fantasy Football Week 3 Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em
Quarterback- Daniel Jones (Start), Ben Roethlisberger (Sit)
Through two weeks of the regular season, Daniel Jones has been a QB1 in fantasy football. His rushing upside needs to be talked about more as he had nine carries for 95 yards last week. He is a must-start in week three against an Atlanta Falcons defense that just gave up 48 points in week two. Ben Roethlisberger is a sit candidate this week despite the inviting matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. He currently has a pectoral injury so there is a chance he doesn’t play. Even if he does, the 39-year-old has limited upside in a Pittsburgh Steelers offense that is struggling to score points.
Honorable Mention Starts: Jalen Hurts (vs. Dallas), Kirk Cousins (vs. Seattle)
Honorable Mention Sits: Ryan Tannehill (vs. Indianapolis), Trevor Lawrence (vs. Arizona)

Running Back- Ty’Son Williams (Start), Myles Gaskin (Sit)
Despite the Baltimore Ravens backfield taking a committee approach, Ty’Son Williams should be started this week. The Detroit Lions were just steamrolled by Aaron Jones in week two and Williams is still the lead back in a run-first offense and will get all the passing game usage. Williams got unlucky with touchdowns last week but he should be able to get one this week. Myles Gaskin is a sit for week three after only receiving five carries in week two. The Miami Dolphins offense is a mess with them getting shut out last week and Tua Tagovailoa questionable to play this week.
Honorable Mention Starts: Melvin Gordon (vs. NYJ), Tony Pollard (vs. Philadelphia)
Honorable Mention Sits: James Conner (vs. Jacksonville), Darrell Henderson (vs. Tampa Bay)
Wide Receiver- Marvin Jones Jr. (Start), Odell Beckham Jr. (Sit)
With the Jacksonville Jaguars most likely needing to play catchup on Sunday, Marvin Jones Jr. is startable in all formats. He has been the best receiver on the Jaguars through two weeks and has a great chance to continue his touchdown streak to start the season. There have been reports that Odell Beckham Jr. may play this Sunday. Even if Beckham Jr. makes his debut, he is a fade this week. His snaps will be limited in some capacity and the Cleveland Browns still have their run-first mentality on offense. It’s best to deploy Beckham Jr. in an easier week four matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.
Honorable Mention Starts: Marquise Brown (vs. Lions), Chase Claypool (vs. Bengals)
Honorable Mention Sits: Corey Davis (vs. Denver), Jaylen Waddle (vs. Las Vegas)
Tight End- Noah Fant (Start), Tyler Higbee (Sit)
Noah Fant is in a great position to be a top-five tight end this week facing a New York Jets defense that was one of the worst defenses against tight ends last season. With Jerry Jeudy sidelined, Fant should be the second option for Teddy Bridgewater behind Courtland Sutton. After getting one target in week two, Tyler Higbee is a fade against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While Higbee will get more targets this week, the Buccaneers linebacking core is one of the best in the league and should make things difficult when throwing across the middle of the field. It would be best to find a tight end with a better matchup this week.
Honorable Mention Starts: Dallas Goedert (vs. Philadelphia), Jared Cook (vs. Kansas City)
Honorable Mention Sits: Robert Tonyan (vs. San Fransisco), Mike Gesicki (vs. Las Vegas)
Defense- Carolina Panthers (Start), Los Angeles Rams (Sit)
After two weeks the number one defense in fantasy is the Carolina Panthers. They are a must-start in all leagues facing rookie Davis Mills on the Houston Texans. While there is a chance this group could come back to earth, they’re still worth deploying to see if they can keep things up. If there is any week you would consider benching the elite Los Angeles Rams defense, it’s this week. Having Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey on your defense means turnovers can happen versus any team, but it’s best to avoid this group in case the game starts turning into a shootout.

Honorable Mention Sits: Indianapolis Colts (vs. Tennessee), Washington Football Team (vs. Buffalo)
