The Indianapolis Colts have been going through their off-season program and a prominent aspect of it is the progress of quarterback Daniel Jones. Jones is returning from an Achilles injury but is back on the practice field going through drills and such. More recently, Jones was a participant in seven on seven drills during practice on Monday.

Daniel Jones Update Provided by Head Coach Shane Steichen
It was reported by Colts writer JJ Stankevitz that head coach Shane Steichen spoke on Jones working in the seven on seven drills.
“It’s just making those strides each and every week and to get him out there at seven-on-seven was huge,” Steichen told reporters.”
It was also reported that Jones will continue to participate in seven on seven, but Steichen is being cautious with Jones.
“It’s just making those strides each and every week and to get him out there at seven-on-seven was huge” said Steichen. Also adding that Jones, “looked good out there.”
Daniel Jones signed with the Colts in the 2025 off-season to a one-year $14 million deal and was awarded the starting the job. The Colts began the season on a roll, winning their first three games and could’ve won there fourth in a row. After their week four loss against the Los Angeles Rams, Indianapolis won five out of eight games. But in Week 14 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jones tore his Achilles, ending his season. The Colts lost that game 36-19. Indianapolis ended the season 8-9 and third in the AFC South behind the Houston Texans and the Jaguars. In 2025, Jones threw for 3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns and 8 interceptions in 13 games played.
Jones had surgery on December 9th and is now about seven months removed from it. Rehab can be rigorous and it was reported by Colts writer Abby Halpin that toward the end of May Jones spoke about the rehab process and being with the team throughout.
“You feel more a part of it,” Jones told Halpin. “Being part of the walkthroughs and going through the plays, it feels more like you’re back in the swing of things.”
“It’s the patience to stick with the process,” Jones added. “Parts of it are tough, but it’s a different way of training and enjoying an offseason that I enjoyed a lot of aspects of.”
Daniel Jones’ Future With the Colts
It seems like the Colts are committing to Jones for the foreseeable future as they signed him to a two-year $88 million deal back in March. Jones did well for the Colts in 2025 and now he has an opportunity to replicate that success in 2026. Jones may not be ready for Week 1 when they take on the Baltimore Ravens but the hope is that he will be. If he isn’t, they have quarterbacks Riley Leonard and Anthony Richardson Sr, who could be in his final season with the team.
