Very few improvements need to be made to the Cleveland Browns roster. Yet, general manager Andrew Berry has always been adamant that he will be aggressive in his work to improve the team. In other words, he will acquire talent in any way he sees fit.
Cleveland Browns Roster is Stacked, Little Room for Improvement
Berry proved he meant every word of his promise. He turned a strong offensive line into an even better one, providing Baker Mayfield with many more weapons to work with. He transformed a lackluster defense into one that is so full of depth that they could have nine starters in 2021. In fact, he and Kevin Stefanski have alluded to the fact that big things are coming for this unit.

As BrownsWire’s Jared Mueller says, “Berry is always ready to pounce on a deal he likes.” And he demonstrated that by trading for Ronnie Harrison towards the end of training camp last year. That was just another move to follow the other quickfire maneuvers already made.
Browns Still Have One of the Most Envied Rosters
As Mueller says, there are no visible weaknesses on either side of the ball. That is something that can’t be said of most teams. Cleveland has an enviable roster with so much depth that the coaching personnel will be spoilt for choice. Getting exactly the right guy for each position will be that much more achievable. It is a luxury, and one that was a long time coming.
That being said, there will likely be many players gone in 2021 despite playing significant snaps last season. The defensive line, linebackers, the secondary – no one is safe when there is competition everywhere.
Can Improvements Be Made to the Offense?
There will always be room for improvement no matter how much talent a team has. But with the Browns offense, changes will be minimal at this point. The Browns had their eye on Julio Jones before he went to the Tennessee Titans. Their obvious interest in him shows they need just one more big, speedy receiver. The health of Odell Beckham Jr. is another storylines to watch with the improvement of the Browns offense.
What About Improvements to the Defense?
While Cleveland added defensive ends Takk McKinley, Jadeveon Clowney and Curtis Weaver, they still don’t have a definitive long-term star. The Browns are also not clear on their defensive tackles. Top-tier talent is still missing here despite plenty of youth plus veteran experience in the form of Malik Jackson.
The cornerback room has talent like Denzel Ward and Troy Hill but Greg Newsome and Greedy Williams are yet to prove themselves. The fifth and sixth cornerback spots will be open to A.J. Green, Robert Jackson and M.J. Stewart to fight it out. Meanwhile, the linebacker and safety rooms simply don’t have any more space or need for additional talent.
Trades Are Still a Possibility
The Browns have a lot of quality despite a few small uncertainties. Berry has made a promise and intends to keep it. Trading away some of their depth players to add draft capital could be a way for them to meet long-term goals. Berry has made smart maneuvers to make good on his promise to be aggressive in improving the Browns roster. It won’t be long before we can see how his decisions have impacted on the team.
