Richard Sherman Arrested For “Burglary Domestic Violence”

Longtime veteran cornerback Richard Sherman has been arrested for Burglary Domestic Violence, according to King County public records. ESPN’s Adam Schefter also notes that Sherman was denied bail. This article will be updated as more information comes in. Sherman, a one-time Super Bowl champion, spent the 2020 season with the San Francisco 49ers.

Richard Sherman Arrested, Denied Bail

The injury bug hit the 49ers hard in 2020, and Sherman was one of the many 49ers that didn’t make it through the entire season. In total, the three-time All-Pro finished the season with 18 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, no sacks, one defended pass, and one interception. Pro Football Focus gave him a 67.7 grade for his efforts this season, good for 38th in the league.

Richard Sherman originally entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Selected by the Seattle Seahawks, the cornerback faced the unenviable task of overcoming his draft capital and earning a spot on the 53-man roster. Sherman was up for the task and then some, appearing in all 16 games while recording 10 starts. During his time on the field, the rookie recorded four interceptions, 17 defended passes, one forced fumble, and 55 tackles.

Sherman built on this promising rookie season by establishing himself as one of the best cornerbacks in the league. Teaming up with Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor to form the Legion of Boom, the Stanford product won First-Team All-Pro honors in 2012, 2013 and 2014. While he was fantastic in all of those seasons, his best year was probably 2013. Starting and appearing in all 16 games, the cornerback finished the year with a league-high eight interceptions, 16 defended passes, 48 tackles, and 10 tackles-for-loss. He capped it all off by winning the Super Bowl by shutting down Peyton Manning and the high-powered Denver Broncos.

Sherman remained an elite player for the remainder of his tenure with the Seattle Seahawks. Unfortunately, he tore his Achilles midway through the 2017 season, and Seattle parted ways with the veteran in the offseason. The cornerback landed with the division-rival San Francisco 49ers, and proved he could still play at a high level. Sherman was one of the best cornerbacks in the league in 2019, and his high level of play was a big reason San Francisco made it all the way to the Super Bowl.
