From a production standpoint, Scherff is the total package. He is one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL today. Scherff was named to four Pro Bowls in his first six seasons. Teammates love the insight he shares in locker room banter, team meetings and on the field. In their eyes, Scherff is a true team leader.

He is a dominant run blocker and very effective at protecting the quarterback in the pocket from interior pass rushers. Scherff’s lower body strength allows him to move defenders off the line of scrimmage. Plus, he has an uncanny knack of aligning secondary blocks off his original assignment, which gives the offensive a unique advantage in numbers on outside-designed running plays.

Despite all of the accolades, Scherff has struggled to stay healthy the past three seasons. He has missed a combined 16 games due to a variety of injuries: a torn pectoral muscle forced Scherff to miss eight games in 2018, lingering elbow and shoulder injuries kept him out of the lineup for five games in 2019 and he missed three games because of a knee sprain this past season. And throughout all of the physical setbacks, Scherff was able to make a significant contribution in games when he was healthy enough to start on Sundays. Scherff was flagged for only two penalties in 2020

The Washington Football Team drafted Scherff with the fifth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Immediately, team head coach Joe Gibbs inserted him as the starting right tackle in the lineup. But Scherff began to open some eyes with his lateral movement to get outside and become the lead blocker on screen passes. It did not take long for them to move Scherff inside to the right guard position and he has never looked back.
