Marvin Jones Signs Deal With Jacksonville Jaguars
Jones is coming off one of the better seasons of his career. He finished with 76 receptions (a career- high) for 978 yards and nine touchdowns, and also played in all 16 games for the first time since the 2017 season. His best game of the season came in the final game of the season when he had eight catches for 180 yards and two touchdowns.
Jones played college football with the University of California. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2012 in the fifth round. He made little impact in his rookie year but had a semi-breakout season in 2013 by bringing in 10 touchdowns (which remains a career-high) and 712 receiving yards. At one point he caught four touchdowns in one game, which was also a Bengals franchise record. His 130 yards in the Wildcard Round that same year was also a franchise playoff record.
Jones missed the entire 2014 season due to injury but bounced back in 2015 with 816 receiving yards. He did well enough to land a five-year deal with the Lions, who were seeking to fill the void after the retirement of Calvin Johnson. The best season of his career came in 2017 when he finished with 1,101 yards and nine touchdowns.
The next couple of seasons were marred by injuries for Jones. He only played nine games in 2018 before suffering a knee injury. In 2019, he had another four-touchdown game, although that was not a franchise record for Detroit.
Thus far in his career, Jones has 423 receptions for 6,025 receiving yards and 51 touchdowns. While he’s only had one 1,000-yard season in his career, he’s been a solid second or third receiver for the bulk of his career.
