Lawrence Guy Signs With New England Patriots
Somewhat of a journeyman in the league, Lawrence Guy is now entering his ninth NFL season and was one of the few bright spots on the New England Patriots roster last year.
He proved to be a solid presence in the middle of the interior defensive line, combining for a total of 57 tackles and 2 sacks last season. In the penultimate week, he had a career day with a combined eight tackles in the loss to Miami.
Off the field, as a defensive captain, Guy provided reliable leadership in the locker room and despite heading over to the wrong side of 30, the veteran has made it clear he has plenty of football left to play.
Prior to finding a home in New England, Lawrence Guy was somewhat of a nomad, rarely settling for more than a season at any one franchise.
Guy was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the seventh round of the 2011 draft but failed to make any impact, spending most of his rookie season on injured reserve before being demoted to the practice squad.
The following year he moved to the Indianapolis Colts where he recorded a respectable 15 solo tackles and one sack in nine games. He was picked up off waivers by the San Diego Chargers for a brief stint before again being picked up off waivers by the Baltimore Ravens.
He had what was then a career-high 46 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 2015 and a lacklustre 2016 season before joining the Patriots on a four-year $20 million deal.
At college, Guy excelled as a freshman at Arizona State, playing in all 12 games of the season and totalling 44 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and 2 sacks and one fumble recovery which he returned for a touchdown.
His performance earned consensus All-Freshman honors, as he was named to FWAA′s Freshman All-America team, The Sporting News′ All-Freshman team, and College Football News′ All-Freshman first team.
