Eagles Front Office ‘Hesitant’ to Award Two-Time Pro Bowler a Projected $30M Deal

Despite being one of the most disruptive run defenders, the Eagles trade rumors have defensive tackle Jalen Carter possibly being moved at some point in the future. Albert Breer of SI reports that the Philadelphia Eagles are hesitating on extending Carter after picking up his fifth-year option earlier this offseason. In the same year, the team extended fellow teammate Jordan Davis to a massive three-year deal, so it’s understandable why a trade might be possible. Here’s what Breer had to say regarding the defensive tackle’s future, and it doesn’t sound good:

“They are hesitant to pay him,” Breer wrote. “Philadelphia is telling you what you need to know with its actions. The Eagles have always been aggressive in paying their own, in large part because they know that the earlier you do the deal, the better the price you’ll get. It’s a strategy that takes commitment from ownership, which Philly clearly has (some owners would rather keep money in their accounts until the summer), and has served the team very well over the years.”

Breer compared it to the George Pickens situation in Dallas. The Eagles are simply waiting from a “character perspective” to see if he’s worth giving a monster contract. However, as an LWOS expert, why wait this one out? Philadelphia GM Howie Roseman has always been aggressive in extending his star players, and with Davis already in the books for a new deal, do they trust him a little more?

Eagles Trade Rumors: Projected $30M Star Could Be Moved

A Trade is Possible

Reportedly, the Eagles refused earlier this month to give up Carter to acquire Myles Garrett from the Los Angeles Rams. Will this stop Philadelphia from trading the two-time Pro Bowl at all? Well, of course not, as the team is always fielding trade calls, but they haven’t found the right deal to send him to a new team. At the same time, it’s difficult to envision him in another uniform, but it’s not impossible.

Last offseason, the team was trying to offer Carter to the Dallas Cowboys during the Micah Parsons saga before he was finally dealt to the Green Bay Packers. Yes, the Eagles-Cowboys were close to making it happen, but Dallas refused to see Parsons in green, especially seeing him twice a year. With that, since the Eagles made every opportunity to deal their defensive tackle, nobody should be really surprised if he’s moved before the 2026 season.

Originally selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, the former Georgia product has recorded 13.5 sacks, 66 solo tackles, 25 tackles for loss and 37 QB hits in 43 games. The Eagles will need to tread lightly over the next two seasons as the defensive tackle has the leverage here, especially if he decides to have another 2026 Pro Bowl year, and that shouldn’t leave any excuse for the organization. Here are two teams that might be willing to pay big bucks for him.

Possible Fits

Los Angeles Chargers

The offseason for the Los Angeles Chargers has been pretty much an embarrassment for this organization. After losing Otito Ogbonnia to Dallas in free agency, the only acquisition they’ve made is replacing him with Dalvin Tomlinson. While they brought back Khalil Mack, the Chargers never made a premium trade addition or a crucial free agent signing to enhance their defense. The team used to have a promising duo between Teair Tart and former Chargers Poona Ford, so maybe they could get back that electricity once again.

Carter and Tart in the same room might be what the Chargers need to elevate this pass-rush to create more opportunities for Mack to smack around the opposing QB’s.

Las Vegas Raiders

Meanwhile, a Raiders-Eagles trade is more likely in this situation, depending on whether Las Vegas has a losing year or not. They likely will, so with the Raiders still looking for a premium DT, the Eagles could send Carter to Las Vegas in exchange for Maxx Crosby. The Eagles have been heavily linked to Crosby for several months, and the team could seal the deal before the trade deadline.
