Following a lackluster offseason in finding a new wide receiver, the Kansas City Chiefs trade rumors are heating up as they’re predicted to trade for a star pass-catcher during the 2026 season. According to Moe Moton of Bleacher Report, the source made a bold prediction that would send Dallas Cowboys star receiver George Pickens to the Kansas City Chiefs. Would it make sense? At the right price, yes, but the Cowboys aren’t looking to deal him right now. Pickens is currently happy with his situation in Dallas and isn’t making any effort to hold out for a new contract despite the franchise tag.
With the Cowboys hesitant to offer a new deal, you’d have to wonder if the Cowboys’ wideout is feeling a little resentment. Earlier this offseason, Dallas was able to extend RB Javonte Williams and Kicker Brandon Aubrey to new deals, but for Pickens? Just a tag without negotiating with him and his agent. While Moton points out that Ryan Flournoy could impress this upcoming season, no one should ever envision more than a WR3.
Dallas can’t afford to lean on Flournoy for WR2 duties alongside CeeDee Lamb. They got the former Steelers receiver there for a reason. Given that, nobody should even think about this scenario until way into the 2026 season.

Pickens Has the Leverage, Trade Request Pending?
As stated before, the Cowboys have nothing to worry about, for now, at least. Dallas is entering a season where they have an older QB in Dak Prescott with aspirations to take this offense to the Super Bowl in 2027. If the plans implode midway through the 2026 regular season, there should be reason to believe that Pickens may request a trade from the team. He’s shown his frustrations in the past with the Pittsburgh Steelers. What would the Cowboys’ situation make it any different?
Last campaign, the receiver hauled in 93 receptions for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns, all career-highs. According to a source, the star considered moving on from the Cowboys during this offseason as he was looking for a new contract. It wasn’t until, of course, the Cowboys franchised tagged him. However, keep an eye on the receiver and how the season plays out for Dallas, as if they have another losing season this upcoming campaign, while Pickens is still exploding on the field, trouble could boil over.
How it Works for Kansas City
Meanwhile, the Chiefs are struggling to long-term perimeter playmaker. Xavier Worthy is finally showing signs of life at training camp, but it’s hard to imagine if Tyquan Thornton and Jalen Royals can keep up with the pace. With Patrick Mahomes returning from a season-ending injury, he’s no longer the same mobile quarterback he once was. This means that once veteran TE Travis Kelce, the Chiefs could see their entire offensive pass-attack collapse if there’s no further improvement.
Rashee Rice is back, but it’s a gamble with him as he’s faced multiple off-field issues, including an arrest. The team is wary of giving him a new deal, and since that’s the case, the Chiefs’ targeting Pickens would make sense to help finally revive this offense.
So What Now?
It depends on how the season plays out for both Kansas City and Dallas. If the Cowboys receive an offer, including multiple first-round picks and a premium defensive player, this would probably convince them to move Pickens. For now, let’s see if the star receiver can replicate what he did last year for this upcoming campaign.
