The 2026 NFL Draft is over and done with, which means veteran free agents like Stefon Diggs should start finding homes in the coming weeks. While every receiver-needy team hoped to hit on a game-changing talent in the draft, the fact of the matter is there’s simply not enough Day 1 game-changers to go around. While some teams like the Tennessee Titans and New Orleans Saints landed their preferred targets, other teams couldn’t get an early wide receiver and will have to resort to the veterans still on the open market.
Stefon Diggs is not the player he once was, but the four-time Pro Bowler is still a solid weapon. Serving as the top weapon for the New England Patriots last year, Diggs finished the season with 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns while helping the team reach the Super Bowl. Assuming his legal issues won’t keep him off the field, Bleacher Report’s Doric Sam believes the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs could be fighting for his services.
“The Baltimore Ravens could use a veteran presence alongside rising star Zay Flowers, who recently had his fifth-year option picked up,” Sam writes. “…Adding Diggs alongside tight end Travis Kelce and receivers Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy would give Patrick Mahomes a talented group when he returns from his torn ACL during the 2026 season.”
Ravens, Chiefs Could Sign Stefon Diggs After NFL Draft
Baltimore’s desire to land Stefon Diggs likely depends on what new head coach Jesse Minter thinks about Rashod Bateman. While the team did select USC wide receiver Jakobi Lane, a true contender, the Ravens shouldn’t put too much faith in a rookie contributing right out of the gate. Zay Flowers has proven he can be a legitimate WR1 with consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, but the jury is still out on Bateman.
At his best, Rashod Bateman looks like a legitimate starter who can create separation and make plays at all three levels of the field. However, he isn’t always at his best and has yet to string together multiple seasons of high-level play. Baltimore historically likes to bring in veteran receivers like Odell Beckham and DeAndre Hopkins, and perhaps Diggs can be the next elder receiver to join this squad.
The Chiefs, meanwhile, make all the sense in the world. Kansas City waited until the fifth round to select a wide receiver, and it’s highly unlikely Cyrus Allen will do much of anything as a rookie. Rashee Rice will not serve a suspension this year, which means he will be the top receiver in this passing attack. On paper, former first-round pick Xavier Worthy will be the WR2, but he has yet to prove he can handle that type of responsibility.
Patrick Mahomes is returning from a torn ACL and probably won’t be able to extend plays like he used to, at least early in the season. Kansas City must find another player who can beat man coverage and get open for the three-time Super Bowl champion. Diggs is arguably the best option remaining and could play a pivotal role in helping this team return to the playoffs.
