Leo Chenal Contract

2-Time Super Bowl Champion Signs Contract With The Commanders

Four-year veteran linebacker Leo Chenal has signed a new contract with the Washington Commanders. Chenal, a two-time Super Bowl champion, spent the entirety of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs. The two-time Super Bowl Champion heads to Washington after agreeing to a three-year, $24.75 million deal.

Leo Chenal, Commanders, Agree to Contract

Leo Chenal has never been a true full-time player, but the four-year veteran has been remarkably effective when on the field. Appearing in 14 games last year, the linebacker finished the final year of his rookie contract with two sacks, 58 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, five quarterback hits, one interception, and a 75.1 PFF grade, the 19th-best mark in the league. While Chenal played well, the Chiefs themselves had a rough season and missed the playoffs despite making the Super Bowl in each of the previous three seasons.

Chenal originally entered the league as a third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Selected by the Kansas City Chiefs, the Wisconsin product began his career as a rotational depth piece on defense. Appearing in all 17 games while making eight starts, the linebacker finished the season with one sack, 35 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, three quarterback hits, and a 70.3 PFF grade. With his help, the Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl to win their second championship of the Patrick Mahomes Era.

Following his promising rookie season, Leo Chenal saw an increased role in 2023. Starting in 10 games while appearing in all 17, he recorded three sacks, 65 tackles, eight tackles-for-loss, and seven quarterback hits while helping the Chiefs become the first team to win consecutive championships since the 2003-2004 New England Patriots. Chenal played a similar role in 2024 and helped Kansas City make another Super Bowl. However, they lost this one to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Since signing his rookie contract, Leo Chenal has appeared in 64 games while making 44 starts. While on the field, the linebacker has recorded seven sacks, 218 tackles, 17 tackles-for-loss, and 16 quarterback hits.
