Watson had the busiest year of his career in 2025 and responded to the additional workload with his best season to date. Starting and appearing in 15 games, the cornerback finished the season with two interceptions, six passes defended, two sacks, 64 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, two quarterback hits, and a 74.1 PFF grade, the 17th-best mark out of 112 eligible players. Despite his impressive play, the Kansas City Chiefs themselves had their worst season of the Patrick Mahomes Era, missing the playoffs and finishing with an underwhelming 6-11 record.
Jaylen Watson originally entered the league as a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Selected by the Kansas City Chiefs, the Ventura College product spent his rookie season as the third cornerback on the depth chart. Appearing in 16 games while making six starts, Watson finished his inaugural campaign with one interception, six passes defended, 49 tackles, and three tackles-for-loss. With his help, the Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles to win their second championship of the Patrick Mahomes Era.
Watson played a similar role in 2023, and the Chiefs once again won the Super Bowl. The Chiefs traded star cornerback L’Jarius Sneed after the season, giving Watson the opportunity to start opposite Trent McDuffie. The cornerback was up for the challenge early in the season, but injuries limited him to just six regular season games. He managed to return for the playoffs and helped the team reach the Super Bowl, although they lost to the Eagles in blowout fashion.
Since signing his rookie contract, Jaylen Watson has recorded three interceptions, 24 passes defended, four sacks, 178 tackles, eight tackles-for-loss, and four quarterback hits.
