Bill Belichick is one of the greatest coaches in NFL history, and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes simply cannot believe the legendary coach didn’t make it into the Hall of Fame. While he will almost definitely make it next year, reports indicate that former Indianapolis Colts General Manager Bill Polian led the charge to keep Belichick out of the Hall. (For what it’s worth, Polian denies this).
Frankly, this is one of the biggest snubs in recent memory, and Mahomes felt the need to weigh in on it. Quoting Adam Schefter’s tweet, the two-time MVP called it “insane” to leave Belichick out of the Hall of Fame and added that he “[doesn’t] even understand how this could be possible.”
Patrick Mahomes Reacts to Bill Belichick’s Hall of Fame Snub
No matter what your personal opinions may be on Bill Belichick, you have to agree with Patrick Mahomes on this one. The longtime Patriots head coach won six Super Bowls with New England. While having Tom Brady certainly makes winning championships easier, nobody can deny Belichick’s impact on those teams, as well as their unprecedented two-decade run of dominance.
Belichick is more than just a one-team wonder, as he won two Super Bowls as the defensive coordinator of the New York Giants. Perhaps his most impressive feat is when he shut down Jim Kelly’s Air Raid offense in Super Bowl XXV, holding the once-unstoppable offense to just 19 points. Belichick’s gameplan is currently in the Hall of Fame.
Bill Belichick had no shortage of controversies as the Patriots head coach, but Patrick Mahomes is right to point out that his greatness far exceeds any overblown scandals. As legendary head coach Jimmy Johnson will tell you, just about every team in the league was doing some version of “Spygate.”
