Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers surprised everyone by coming out of retirement after five years and playing reasonably well during his three starts. While the Colts went 0-3 with Rivers under center, you can’t blame the future Hall of Famer for the lack of success. Despite lacking his previous arm strength, the quarterback finished his three-game stint completing 63% of his passes for 544 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions. While he wasn’t the player he once was, he played well enough to sign with someone in 2026 if he so desired.
Unfortunately, this appears to be the last we’ll see of Philip Rivers. In a recent interview, the quarterback made it clear that he has no intentions of playing in 2026.
“There’s no chance,” Rivers said, via the Up and Adams show. “It was a place I’d been, a team I was familiar with, the offense was exactly the same, a coach I knew, it was all those things, our football season was over, all those things made it the perfect storm…This was a fun three-week blur that nobody saw coming, including myself. And that’ll be it.

Despite his relative success with no preparation, it’s no surprise to see that Philip Rivers doesn’t want to return to the Colts, or any other team for that matter. He last played in 2020 and seems to be enjoying his time as head coach of St. Michael’s Catholic High School.
With Philip Rivers out of the picture, the Colts will likely sign a veteran quarterback next year as Daniel Jones works his way back from his Achilles injury. Jones himself is scheduled to be a free agent, and he would have earned a large paycheck had he stayed healthy. Only time will tell what the Colts will do at the quarterback position, as they don’t appear to have an easy answer to the game’s most important position.
