Chris Rodriguez Injury Update: RB’s Status Revealed For Commanders-Giants

Washington Commanders running back Chris Rodriguez is in serious danger of missing Week 15’s battle against the New York Giants with a groin injury. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Kentucky product is a true game-time decision, and the team won’t know if he can play until he warms up in the pre-game.

Chris Rodriguez Injury Update: Commanders RB A True Game-Time Decision

This groin injury is a frustrating development for Chris Rodriguez, as the third-year pro was starting to establish himself as the top option in Washington’s running back committee. Over the last three weeks, the running back recorded a combined 36 attempts for 172 yards and a touchdown, although Washington lost all three contests. So far on the season, Rodriguez has appeared in 11 games (six starts) while recording 81 attempts for 372 yards and four touchdowns. All of these numbers are career bests.

The Chris Rodriguez injury is just the latest development in what has been one of the league’s more chaotic running back rooms. Veteran Brian Robinson entered the offseason as the starter but quickly lost the job to seventh-round rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt. The team traded Robinson to the San Francisco 49ers just before the season began, clearing the way for Croskey-Merritt to start. This path became more open after veteran Austin Ekeler suffered a season-ending Achilles injury.

Unfortunately, the rookie wasn’t up for the task. While he performed well early in the season, he hasn’t recorded more than 38 yards in over two months. This allowed Rodriguez to earn a larger role in the offense, although he hasn’t set the world on fire with the extended opportunities. All in all, the Chris Rodriguez injury just represents another blow to a Commanders team that has failed to meet expectations.
