Cam Skattebo Injury Update: Giants Rookie Star Undergoes Surgery

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo suffered a gruesome ankle injury in Sunday’s loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, and he probably won’t see the field any time soon. The breakout rookie had to be carted off with an ankle in an aircast, and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport recently tweeted that Skattebo will undergo surgery in a Philadelphia hospital.

Cam Skattebo Injury Update: Giants RB Undergoing Ankle Surgery

While the Giants have yet to officially rule Cam Skattebo out for the season, it’s safe to assume this injury will sideline him indefinitely. He finished the game against the Giants with three carries for 12 yards and added an 18-yard receiving touchdown in the first quarter. Prior to the game, Skattebo recorded 398 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 98 attempts while giving Giants fans something to be excited about for the first time in years.

In his absence, former fifth-round pick Tyrone Tracy will be the team’s primary running back. While he’s become something of an afterthought this year, the Purdue product played well as a rookie. Appearing in all 17 games while making 12 starts, Tracy finished his inaugural season with 839 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 192 attempts despite playing in a poor offense.

The latest loss brings the Giants to 2-6 on the season. While rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart has infused the team with some life, New York’s odds of making the postseason are all but gone. Even if he could return, don’t expect Cam Skattebo to return to the field and risk re-aggravating his injury. The Giants have some building blocks for the future, but this looks like another lost season.
