Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray will almost certainly not play in Week 6 as he recovers from a foot injury. While he isn’t officially ruled out as of this posting, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the team is “preparing for Jacoby Brissett to start” as the team hopes to avoid a four-game losing streak.
Losing your starting quarterback for a game is obviously not ideal, but Murray could be sidelined for more than one game. Rapoport adds that the Kyler Murray foot injury is “a version of a Lisfranc injury” and he could miss significant time, as “pushing it can cause an aggravation.”
Kyler Murray Could Miss Multiple Weeks With Foot Injury
Only time will tell how much time Kyler Murray misses with his foot injury, but this is not the news Cardinals fans wanted to hear. The team began the season with two wins against the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers, but dropped three straight games, including one of the most embarrassing losses of the year against the Tennessee Titans. In the unofficial Reddit thread discussing Murray’s injury, one Redditor said they’re “going to call into work to miss the game,” while another says “it just never seems like anything lines up for us.”
The silver lining is that Jacoby Brissett is one of the league’s better backup quarterbacks. While nobody would confuse him with a franchise passer, the former third-round pick has bounced around the league as an adequate short-term starter. Last year with the New England Patriots, Brissett started five games while completing 59% of his passes for 826 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception on arguably the league’s worst roster. Brissett has made 53 starts throughout his career, completing 61.1% of his passes for 11,400 yards, 53 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions. Interestingly enough, his 1.4% interception rate is the lowest in NFL history among qualified passers.
