Six-year veteran edge defender Charles Omenihu has signed a new contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. Omenihu, a former fifth-round pick, spent the 2024 season with the Kansas City Chiefs but has also played for the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers.

Omenihu started the 2024 season on the Physically Unable to Perform list after tearing his ACL in the 2023 AFC Championship Game. While he spent most of the season rehabbing, he returned to the field late in the year. Appearing in six games while making one start, the veteran finished his truncated season with one sack, six tackles, one quarterback hit, and a 61.3 PFF grade, the 69th-best mark out of 119 eligible players. With his help, Kansas City made it to the Super Bowl but lost in blowout fashion to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Charles Omenihu originally entered the league as a fifth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Selected by the Houston Texans, the Texas product started his career in a situational role. Appearing in 14 games without making a start, the rookie finished his inaugural season with three sacks, 13 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, five quarterback hits, and a 59.8 PFF grade. Houston made it to the AFC Divisional Round before falling to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
The edge defender played a similar role for the next season and a half before the spiraling Texans traded him to the San Francisco 49ers midway through the 2021 season. Brought on to assist in a Super Bowl run, Omenihu recorded six sacks and one quarterback hit in nine games with San Francisco. Fortunately, Charles Omenihu was more productive in the final year of his rookie contract, as he recorded 4.5 sacks, 20 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, and 16 quarterback hits during his final year with the 49ers.
Charles Omenihu used this impressive season to earn a two-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. This investment immediately paid off, as the edge defender recorded seven sacks, 28 tackles, five tackles-for-loss, and 11 quarterback hits during his first year with the club.
