Breaking: Saints Bring In 2,900-Yard Free Agent For Visit

The New Orleans Saints are looking for more help at the wide receiver position, and free agent wide receiver Gabe Davis could be the answer to their problems. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the former fourth-round pick is coming to visit the team, and Nick Underhill of New Orleans Football said a signing “would make sense” for both sides.

Saints Bringing In Gabe Davis For Free Agent Workout

Gabe Davis is one of the top remaining free agents on the open market, and the Saints could use a player like him if he can recapture his form with the Buffalo Bills. A fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Central Florida product outplayed his draft capital with a promising rookie season. Appearing in all 16 games, Davis finished his inaugural campaign with 35 receptions for 599 yards and seven touchdowns. He put up similar numbers in 2021 before earning a full-time starting job in 2022. With the increased role, Davis recorded 48 receptions for 836 yards and seven touchdowns.

After spending his first four years with the Buffalo Bills, the Jacksonville Jaguars signed Davis to a massive three-year, $39 million deal. This immediately backfired, as the Central Florida product struggled to make an impact in his new environment. Appearing in 10 games while making nine starts, the high-priced free agent finished the season with just 20 receptions for 239 yards and two touchdowns.

If signed by the Saints, Gabe Davis would likely compete with Brandin Cooks to be the third receiver in this passing attack. Chris Olave is firmly entrenched atop the depth chart, while Rashid Shaheed is a superior deep threat. He shouldn’t cost more than the veteran minimum, as Jacksonville is still on the hook for the guaranteed portion of his contract.
