Seven-year veteran edge defender Josh Sweat signed a new contract with the Arizona Cardinals. Sweat, a former fourth-round pick, spent the entirety of his professional career with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Josh Sweat, Arizona Cardinals, Agree to Contract
The Philadelphia Eagles had one of the league’s top front sevens in football, and Josh Sweat played a large role in that success. Starting and appearing in 16 games, the veteran finished the season with eight sacks, 41 tackles, nine tackles-for-loss, 15 quarterback hits, and a 70.0 PFF grade, the 36th-best mark out of 119 eligible players. With his help, the Eagles won the Super Bowl, beating the Kansas City Chiefs by a final score of 40-22.
Josh Sweat originally entered the league as a fourth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Selected by the Philadelphia Eagles, the Florida State product hardly saw the field as a rookie. Appearing in nine games without making a start, the rookie finished his inaugural season with just one tackle, one quarterback hit, and no sacks as Philadelphia made the postseason but lost to the New Orleans Saints in the divisional round of the playoffs.
Despite his slow start, Sweat earned a larger role in 2018. Playing situationally, the edge defender appeared in all 16 games without making a start while recording four sacks, 21 tackles, seven tackles-for-loss, and 10 quarterback hits. Once again, the Eagles made the playoffs but failed to go on a deep postseason run.
Sweat remained a situational player in 2020 but finally broke out in 2021. Starting in 13 games, the Florida State product recorded 7.5 sacks, 45 tackles, seven tackles-for-loss, 13 quarterback hits, and a 76.1 PFF grade while making the first Pro Bowl of his career. He proved this wasn’t a one-year fluke in 2022 when he recorded 11 sacks, 48 tackles, 15 tackles-for-loss, 23 quarterback hits, and an 83.8 PFF grade. Despite making improvements across the board, he did not make the Pro Bowl for this strong campaign.
Since signing his rookie contract, Josh Sweat has recorded 43 sacks, 237 tackles, 54 tackles-for-loss, and 97 quarterback hits.
