Christian Kirk Contract

Jaguars Trade 7-Year Veteran to Division Rival

Seven-year veteran wide receiver Christian Kirk has been acquired by the Houston Texans in a trade. Kirk, a former second-round pick, spent the 2024 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars but also played for the Arizona Cardinals.

Jaguars, Texans Agree to Christian Kirk Trade

Kirk joins his new team following a disappointing 2024 campaign. Limited to just eight games thanks to injury, the wide receiver recorded just 27 receptions for 379 yards and one touchdown in the final year of the Doug Pederson Era. With head coach Liam Coen taking over and 2024 first-round pick Brian Thomas establishing himself as a legitimate top target, the Jaguars cut Kirk to clear up cap space.

Christian Kirk originally entered the league as a second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Selected by the Arizona Cardinals, the Texas A&M product made a name for himself in a poor environment. Appearing in 12 games while making seven starts, the rookie finished his inaugural season with 43 receptions for 590 yards and three touchdowns. Despite his efforts, the Cardinals finished with the worst record in football and replaced head coach Steve Wilks with Kliff Kingsbury.

Kingsbury used the first-overall pick on Kyler Murray, and Kirk remained productive despite a new head coach and quarterback. Starting and appearing in 13 games, the wideout recorded 68 receptions for 709 yards and three touchdowns. Following a relatively down 2020, Christian Kirk finished the final year of his rookie contract with 77 receptions for 982 yards and five touchdowns. While the Cardinals made the playoffs, they ultimately lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card round.

Following his strong 2021, Christian Kirk earned a four-year, $72 million contract that effectively broke the wide receiver market. The Texas A&M product originally justified this investment, recording 84 receptions for 1,108 yards and eight touchdowns while helping the team make the AFC Divisional Round. Unfortunately, he came back to Earth in 2023, finishing the season with 57 receptions for 787 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games.
