Tanking Jaguars Could Trade $52 Million Star to Saints, Chiefs

The Jacksonville Jaguars are 0-4 and, with their season effectively over, could trade offensive tackle Cam Robinson to a needy contender.
Cam Robinson Trade

The Jacksonville Jaguars are in a complete nosedive, and their dysfunction could lead to a Cam Robinson trade. Last year at this time, the Jaguars were fresh off a surprising playoff birth and seemed destined to win a weak AFC South. However, a late-season losing streak cost them a spot in the playoffs, and they picked up right where they left off last year. Now 0-4, the Jaguars are the NFL’s only winless team, and head coach Doug Pederson is actively blaming the players for this disappointing start. With the playoffs all but certainly out of the picture, the Jaguars could part ways with some veterans in exchange for draft picks.

One of the most likely trade targets on the team is offensive tackle Cam Robinson. A second-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Alabama product has been a featured part of Jacksonville’s offensive line since he entered the league. While he has slowed down a bit, the offensive tackle remains a starting-caliber player who could help several organizations across the league. While several teams could use another offensive tackle, the Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints are most likely to make a move for the veteran.

Saints, Chiefs Could Trade For Jaguars Cam Robinson

Injuries forced Trevor Penning into a starting role, and the 2022 first-round pick performed well against the Carolina Panthers in Week 1. Unfortunately for everyone involved, Penning reverted to his career norms over the past three weeks. As of this posting, the offensive tackle’s abysmal 53.1 PFF grade ranks 65th out of 78 eligible players. Saints quarterback Derek Carr is one of the worst in the league against a collapsing pocket, so if this team wants to return to the postseason for the first time since 2020, they should consider a Cam Robinson trade.

First-round pick Taliese Fuaga has played well on the left side, but an offensive line is only as strong as its weakest link. The Saints are one game out of the division lead, but they have the talent to take the crown away from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Carr is playing some of his best football, but adequate blocking would allow him to reach his ceiling while allowing Rashid Shaheed more time to make plays downfield. Cam Robinson might not be Trent Williams, but the trade candidate is an adequate starter who could be a crucial part of the 2024 Saints.

More Help For Mahomes

The Kansas City Chiefs are 4-0, but Patrick Mahomes does not look like his usual unstoppable self. With Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice likely done for the season, the quarterback needs reliable blocking so that first-round pick Xavier Worthy can make plays downfield. Unfortunately, while the Chiefs have the best interior line in football, their tackle situation is a glaring problem. Second-round pick Kingsley Suamataia is not ready for NFL action, as his 41.0 PFF grade ranks 76th out of 78 players. Journeyman Wanya Morris is a little bit better, but he’s nothing more than a stopgap. If this team wants a reliable starter for the rest of the season, they should trade for Cam Robinson.

The Chiefs offense hasn’t been anything special this year, in large part because Mahomes hasn’t had enough time in the pocket. With both tackle positions struggling, the quarterback has primarily moved the offense with quick passes to Rashee Rice. Now that the former second-round pick will likely miss a sizable chunk of time, Kansas City could go back to a deep passing offense led by Xavier Worthy. However, this won’t work unless Mahomes has time to throw the ball, which could necessitate a Cam Robinson trade.
